It’s been an unsettled time of late, and I don’t just mean the weather. The economic uncertainty has massively affected recruitment and businesses are favouring temporary staff over permanent hires. A survey of national employers by the REC found that only 49% expected to increase permanent hires, compared to 66% the month before. Conversely, 83% said they expected their use of temporary staff to either grow or at least stay the same over the next 12 months.
Undoubtedly, temporary workers give employers more options to flex their workforce while the current economic conditions prevail, and this is why the UK is at an all time high of 1.6 million temporary workers. But all is not lost for the permanent workforce with 90% of employers saying they expect to maintain or increase their permanent workforce.
With the economy stagnating we expect our clients to be cautious and we are ready to react to any changing employment needs they may have.
